That musical pen could have been a good idea if it had a better look on the outside. With its present form, it looks like a Thereifixedit material ;P

@VR1ZZA GLADLY! Ive been into Electronics since I was 9 and I went to Trade School for it. (I knew everything they TRIED to Teach me) the BEST Way- is to Buy BASIC ELECTRONICS BOOK at a College or Bookstore. Take EVERYTHING Apart You see and collect the parts. Switches , Parts etc from thrown away Radio and other electronics. You will NEVER get bored or NOT use everything you collect. I went to heaven when I got in to 2-way radio! Talk across Entire Countries onto others from your bedroom.

  • 35 VR1ZZA // Jan 28, 2012 at 3:32 pm

Can someone recommend how one would go about learning about electronics as a somewhat serious hobby? I mean, should I just start with a kit, read some books first, or is there a more preliminary subject that I should invest my time in before attempting to make my own circuits? Thanks =]

  • 36 chickenpoper // Jan 28, 2012 at 3:46 pm

@phin3s i may have accidently touched some hot parts in my first few months of soldering (when i was 12) but i never burned myself(im 13 now)

  • 37 chickenpoper // Jan 28, 2012 at 4:17 pm

parents are the most mentaly stifling to a childs mental development.
when i was 7 years old we moved into a house whare i repaired the central heating system. it was a loose connector on a electronic momentary pushbutton switch.
wich i noticed carefully examining all the electronics i wasnt that easily detured though.

    BATH TOY!!!!

  • 42 cumesoftware // Jan 28, 2012 at 7:20 pm

Indeed! Although it is rather easy to make a good solder joint, it takes practice to make better solder joints. And you learn to do it only by practice.

  • 43 hrbear // Jan 28, 2012 at 7:43 pm

Me too. The best soldering devices are those that look like pensils, and have a holder with a sponge. They also have temperture switch. You have to ground them in order not to destroy the CMOS ICs. Do you remember the older soldering guns which the TV repairmen used to use? These are not grounded and they destroy ICs. They were use them in those old tube TVs. Well soldering is an art, you learn by the passing of time, making better and better constructions.

  • 44 cumesoftware // Jan 28, 2012 at 8:25 pm

Indeed! But I’m arguing against Perillo’s lame excuse for not soldering.

  • 45 phin3s // Jan 28, 2012 at 8:50 pm

Who hasn’t burned themselves while atleast learning to solder. I have been soldering for a while and I still make stupid mistakes like grabbing the tip of a hot iron.

  • 46 cumesoftware // Jan 28, 2012 at 9:47 pm

I burned myself more than once, but that is no reason to give up soldering. LOL

  • 47 cumesoftware // Jan 28, 2012 at 10:46 pm

The kits from Velleman are the best.

    EVERYBODY SHOULD WATCH THIS
ENJOY e-cigarettes in restaurants, bars, airports, arenas, in bed.
The FDA continually tries to extend their sphere of influence through hyperbole and a zero tolerance attitude toward personal risk, no matter how slight. Witness the Ephedrine fiasco, where the FDA arbitrarily banned the drug but was forced to do an about face by the court system after failing to prove that it was a systemically dangerous product
