How will you differentiate between resistors and capacitors?
August 11th, 2011 – No Comments
Have you ever seen an electronic circuit board? There are different types of small cylindrical-shaped devices placed on the board. Some of them are resistors while some are capacitors. So, how to identify them? Resistors are generally used to decrease the amount of conductivity in the path. They are used to limit current to supply a lower voltage than the supplied voltage to a component. One interesting point is that the colored bands on a resistor define the resistance value in ohms.
On the other hand, capacitors on an electronic board look like little cans with lead emerging from the bottom. The capacitors can vary in size from the size of a resistor to the size of your forearm, though the physical size has little to do with the actual capacitance. The physically large capacitors may be of low capacitance, but able to work at very high voltages. The capacitors’ voltages value will be printed on the body of the capacitor, generally in microfarads.
There are separate uses of capacitors and resistors in an electric circuit board. The only purpose of this article is to help you differentiate between them. However, this article doesnt put any light on its functioning and features.
